Pocketbook Hour
Nick Hadley (iinickhadleyii) is a local KC musician. We connected on Instagram when he was looking for a creative photographer who could help him with some cover art for his new song.
Finding the vibe
When I first met with Nick I really wanted to establish the heart of his song.
I listened to his music and had him send me along any inspo photos. He said he really wanted a dreamy vibe and was inspired by 90’s photography.
After hearing his song I created an art concept. I loved the idea of working in an open field (a nod to his local Kansas roots) and to evoke the feel of a 90’s bedroom.
The details
After I established an art concept I loved the idea of incorporating a Wes Anderson-esque color scheme into the shoot. I modeled the colors after Life Aquatic and worked on sourcing some 90’s props.
Everything brought to the shoot was thrifted in Lawrence. Some of the props were vintage and actually from the 90’s.
The shoot
We shot in a field at golden hour and it was perfect. The lighting was just how we wanted it and we loved the long shadows that were cast from the hay bales and trees.
Nick is an extremely talented musician and a huge mental health advocate. He describes his style as uplifting and nostalgic.
I loved working with Nick and I’m always grateful when other creatives trust me with their projects!
